Hi Deana,
We enjoy your radio program so very much. We hope you can help
us locate one of your dad's CDs. I cannot remember the exact title
of it, but some of the songs included are "Everybody Loves
Somebody," and "Volare." Within its case is included
a booklet with a synopsis of each song and when it was recorded;
its composer; and how the song placed on the charts. We cannot
find it anywhere; and not remembering the title of it doesn't help!
I will send you my VISA account number as soon as you tell me you
have it. It will be an honor to purchase it directly from you!
Grazie, Cara!
Christine
Dear Deana,
I listen to your programs on KSHO, both mornings and afternoons. I
will admit I listen in my sleep to the morning show because
of the time difference (PST).
I appreciate the quality of your voice and your dialogue about
the music and musicians. I would also appreciate your playing "Summer
Wind" by your Uncle Frank, ever so often.
Best wishes,
Marian VanNice
Hi Deana,
I used to listen to you and John every morning on my way to work
and I really enjoyed the show and I miss hearing both of you on
my drive to work. I enjoyed the antidotes and stories of your Dad
and all of the "Rat Pack" gang. I sure wish you were
still in the time slot 8:00-10:00 am. I also miss hearing you on
Sunday mornings. I will try and catch your show in it’s new
time slot whenever I can. Until then best wishes for your continued
success.
Sandra Leap
McGaheysville, VA
Hi Sandra,
Great news. John and I are back to our original time slots
at 8:00 AM-10:00 AM EST and the Deana Martin show is now on
from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST. I hope you can join us again.
Deana
Dear Deana,
Love your show with John Griffeth, "The Music of Your Life",
and also when you do the show alone. Will be buying your CD next
week. One question, yesterday on the show you mentioned that your
Dad, the great Dean Martin, used an after shave or cologne called
Woodhue??? Could you verify the correct spelling please? I would
be very interested in purchasing something that Dean used. Thank
you and keep up the good work. I think your great.
Bob
Dear Deana,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing a part of your life with
us. I read your book in 4 hours. A first time 'author'
that came across so excellently is just unbelievable.
I have two daughters in Las Vegas. They are watching the
papers for your show. I will send them the money for them
and their husbands to attend and give me a step by step review
of what I know will be a wonderful experience. Do you have
any dates for Las Vegas? I live in the Seattle/Tacoma, Washington
area. Will you be bringing your show to WA?
One of my goals is to make the 'festival' in Ohio. One way
or another, I'd like to have your book autographed.
God bless to you and your family.
Rudy
Hi Deana,
Did you come to Washington State like you said? Unfortunately,
I never got to see you. Anyway, I liked your book. Your Dad
was one of my favorite people.
Take care,
Debby
Lacey Washington
Hi Debby,
Unfortunately, our show like many others, was rained out
for the season and therefore the promoter had to cancel. We
are rescheduling for the fall of 2007. As soon as the dates
are inked I will post them on my website at deanamartin.com
and look at Tours & Events.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I recently re-discovered your father’s music. What
a voice! I grew up watching, listening and laughing with
your father (and singing along, not as well though). I will
be purchasing your book soon. Thanks for sharing him with
the world. I only live about a 1/2 hour from Steubenville,
Ohio. When is the next Dean Martin festival?
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
The 2007 Dean Martin Festival in Steubenville will be held
this year on June 14th through the 17th. All pertinent
information can be found on my website at deanamartin.com and
click on Dean Martin Festival. I hope to see you there.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I am adopted and just found out that I was born Maria Grossetti.
My boss just met you at a book signing and you had mentioned that
your dad's real name was "Grossetti". What I am trying
to find out is if it is the same name and spelling as my name before
I was adopted. I would really be interested to find out.
Thank you.
Teresa Perkins
Hi Teresa,
My Dad was born “Dino Crocetti”. I hope
this helps you.
Deana
Hi Deana,
In your book memories..." you mention that you treasure the
last bottle of Woodhue men's cologne...that reminded of your Dad.
A similar cologne is for sale in a catalog called "The Vermont
Country Store
I was going to send you a bottle...but I didn't know if you would
actually get it.
I have been a long time fan of your father ever since discovering
him. (I'm 42). I enjoyed all aspects of his career from TV shows,
movies, music, etc. He really was magical. I wish I had had the
chance to see him live or with the Rat Pack etc.
Thanks for keeping his memory alive. Great book!
Thanks.
Sue McAllister
Hello Deana,
I was at the book signing at Borders book store and I enjoyed
the stories about your family I love the music of your father and
Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett those are my idols. I hope you will
come back to Ohio. I live in Rocky River by the shores of Lake
Erie. It’s beautiful when the sunsets at night. I love it.
Well I just wanted to tell you I enjoyed the night listening to
your memories of your father. That was very nice. Well, I’ll
let you go.
Take care,
Angelo
Dear Deana,
Every morning on my way to work, I spend time with you and John
Griffeth....you make the commute so much better. Thank you for
that. I am very excited about the reissue of your father's capitol
recordings on CD. I'd love to see all of his recordings come to
the light of day. Your dad would be very proud of you.
Doug Richardson
Hi Deana,
I love your radio show and listen to it every day. My question
is: Your dad made a movie in which he was an airline pilot and
had an apartment I believe in France. He met a girl that
was from Beta Lure. I remember a song The Moon of Beta Lure or
something like that. What was the name of the movie and is
it on tape? I have loved your dad's music for years especially "Everybody
Loves Somebody Sometime" that song has a very special meaning.
Thank you and keep up the wonderful work,
Nancy Snyder
Hi Deana,
The other day I was watching the last hour of the cable channel "E
Hollywood" and it was about your father. I missed the first
hour of the show. I didn't know this show was about Mr. Dean Martin.
You and your mother both looked beautiful. I really enjoyed the
hour I saw of the show.
Do you know how I can get a copy of this show? If so, please let
me know.
I finally got to see the Les Brown show on Tuesday and to my surprise
you were not there. I asked and someone said you might have been
there for a little while and the other person (they worked at the
theater) said you could not come, because your husband was involved
in a big project.
My question to you is, will you every come to visit Branson? If
so can you let me know where and when?
Have you considered my idea of you doing a song with your father
as Natalie Cole did with her father?
I think this would be a great tribute to your father and I believe
this would make him happy. May he rest in peace.
Thank you for taking the time to read my e-mail.
Donald Lennon
Hi Donald,
I tour a great deal but I am currently performing in concert
with Les Brown and his Band of Renown on Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday mornings and Thursday and Saturday evenings. I
hope you have an opportunity to see our show. I would love
to do a duet with my Father.
Deana
Hi Deana,
Thank you for visiting Columbus Ohio recently. I enjoyed
hearing the stories about your Dad. I look forward to reading
your book. This may be a dumb question but, do you listen
to his songs often or watch his old shows?
Thanks,
Michele
Dear Deana,
I love your dad and Frank Sinatra with all my heart. There are
a lot of rumours about their last years together. I hope you can
tell us the truth. I hope these great loveable guys were blood
brothers right to the end. God bless you all!
With kind regards,
Aart Laferte
The Netherlands
Hi Deana,
Thanks for being so sweet to us at WMKV in Cinci. My love
to all, hope maybe our paths cross again.
Ken Kallick
Dear Deana,
This E-mail is from an Iraqi old fan of your dad, the great Dean
Martin. We enjoyed every song and every film he made. We would
like to thank you and may our Lord bless his soul.
We send our love,
Odal Kafagi
Hi Deana,
Which is the correct date for Dean's birthday??? Some have it
as the 7th & others say 17th!!! Could you please tell
me which is it?
Many thanks,
Kathy McCrae
Hi Kathy,
My Father was born on June 7, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio.
Deana
Dear Deana,
My wife and I just finished your book and I wanted to let you
know how much we enjoyed it.
I have been a record collector for years and always loved your
Dad's music. One of my favorites in the collection is the
radio DJ copy of the Rio Bravo release of "My Rifle, My Pony
and Me," one of your Dad's best, I think.
On a lighter note, we also wanted to tell you that your Dad's music
was adored by our late Chinese pug dogs, which were very finicky
music critics! They could only stand two artists: Dean
Martin and Cream (what a combination!) Both dogs would just
melt when your father's voice came on.
Again, your book was great and I hope you and your family have
a great life.
Mel & Debby Hanks
Dear Deana,
I want to say thank you. A few weeks ago I wrote and told
you that The Four lads were still touring and you took the time
to mention it on the air with your busy schedule. After meeting
your father many years ago I have to say you are just as thoughtful
as he was GOD BLESS YOU DEANA. If you are ever in New Hampshire,
please let me know. I would be honored to meet you. If
you have any book signings in this area please let me know also.
Always,
Jean
Hi Deana,
You asked me to email you when I finished your book and compare
it to the book written by Jerry Lewis. I tremendously enjoyed
both books. I must admit that while reading your book I found
myself crying at least 3 different times. Your book gave
me a better insight into your family life. Being from Ohio
and having a father who was born in Italy, I could relate to many
of the situations that you experienced. I just wanted you
to know that your book was a wonderful tribute to your dad and
both my husband and I enjoyed it thoroughly. We are going
to try to come to the Festival in Steubenville. Thanks again
for allowing us to get a glimpse of your wonderful father. We
will continue to enjoy his music and movies.
Sincerely,
Angela DeVitis
Hi Deana,
A friend told me he had seen you on a local television show and
that you had moved to Missouri near Branson. Will you be performing
there or did you want a change of pace from living in Beverly Hills?
Bernard Watts
Hi Bernard,
Both. I perform in concert in Branson periodically throughout
the year. Currently I’m performing with Les Brown and
his Band of Renown.
Deana
Dear Deana,
Can you please tell me if the Dean Martin Christmas album Reprise
label 1966 is on CD? I believe that the Christmas CD that is out
now does not have all the tracks that are on the 1966 Christmas
album. I listen to your father’s music every single day.
Thank you.
Al Pitelli
Hi Deana,
My name is Mark Pinto and I'm 41 years old, I lost my father to
Lou Gehrig's disease in 1997 and I miss him terribly. My Dad and
I used to roll on the floor with laughter watching the "Roasts" when
I was a kid...it's among my most fondest memories I have of him.
I’ve always "liked" your Dad's music... But until
I read your book...and was astonished to see how much alike your
Dad was to mine and how many similarities that I, myself share
with your Dad...(love of westerns, family dinners, etc.) It's made
me want to find out more about him and the kind of person he was.
And the more I found out...the more I liked him...not only as a
performer, but also as a man. I've read Ricci's book and most recently,
Jerry Lewis' (yours is the best...but don't tell them I said so!!)
I'm now a huge fan of not only Dean Martin the singer/entertainer
but Dean Martin the man himself...and I love your Dad not only
because of the person he was, but also how much he reminds me of
my Dad and the wonderful memories we shared together.
I'm planning to come to the 2006 Festival in Steubenville with
your book in tow and I hope to have you sign it for me.
Thank you for this opportunity to email you directly and thank
you for all that you and your husband do to keep your Dad's memory
alive for all of us to cherish and enjoy!
Mark Pinto
Dear Deana,
Not a question but a comment. I watched Jerry Lewis on Larry
King this evening. I am 56 and grew up with Jerry Lewis
movies but not so much their act. I love watching it now. I always
loved your father's voice. He was in my opinion the No.1 crooner. Also
he wasn't bad to gaze upon.
Good luck to you and with Jerry's book on his friend Dean.
Judy Rosynsky
Dear Deana,
I am a collector of your dad’s records and movie posters
from Apollo, Diamond, Capitol, Reprise to WB. Posters from My Friend
Irma to Cannonball Run 2 but there is one question following me
over the years. Is it a fact or rumor that your dad recorded live
from Olympia in Paris back in the 50s?
Could it be then he was over there for "The Young Lions”?
Best Regards From Sweden
Roland
Hi Roland,
I have never heard of my Father recording in Paris.
Deana
Dear Deana,
It’s a pleasure to write to you, and to have the opportunity
to express to you how very much I had always truly loved and admired
your dad. These are words spoken from a 51 year old man with a
wonderful wife and 2 simply terrific sons. Shows just how much
your fathers impact had on so many people. His influence transcends
generations of time...what a wonderful tribute to the man he will
always be remembered as. Thank you for this forum, so that I may
have the chance to express how much we all loved and miss him.
With so many thanks to you and your wonderful family, we wish you
a most joyous of holidays, and may you have happiness and peace
in your lives.
Geoff Deet.......God Bless our soldiers.
Hi Geoff,
I agree, God Bless our troops.
Deana
Hi Deana,
My family loves your book. I'm now reading it to my 6 year
old son, Hanneman. He loves your father’s music. It
puts him to bed each night.
Thank you,
Adam McGraw
HI Deana,
I was and continue to be a huge fan of your dad. I also grew up
in an Italian neighborhood. I remember the heated debates we had
about your dad and Frank Sinatra and who had the better voice.
Of course I always voted for Dean. Every year around the
holidays I get nostalgic like many others do and I can’t
help think of a time gone by and how much joy your dad brought
into our home. I have two older sisters who just adored your dad
and my little Italian mother loved his Thursday evening show. I
now have teenagers of my own and they also love to watch the old
movies. I hope to read your book soon and Jerry’s new book
also...sorry for the long rant. I’ll finish in saying that
this web site and many others that honor your dads memory give
us fans a warm connection to your dad. Peace and love to you and
your family.
Joe
Dear Deana,
This is not a question I am 54 yrs. old and have loved your Dad
from when I was about 10 I used to fight with my parents to stay
up to watch the Dean Martin Variety show. He had such charisma
and charm and was so beautiful. Frank was good but no one compared
to your Dad. How I cried when he passed and now as Christmas
comes my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Patricia Marchese
Hi Deana,
Your dad was a great man.
Jim Cole
Hi Deana,
We are very excited to see you have a new show, "Deana Sings
Dino", and would like to know where you will be appearing?
Much Love,
Derek and Dawne
Hi Derek and Dawne,
It’s nice to hear from you. All of my concert dates
are posted on my website www.deanamartin.com under “Tours
and Events”.
Deana
Dear Deana,
Needless to say I am an admirer of your father and his music.
We are so fortunate to be able to listen to his music as if he
were still with us.
I recently read a book 'Sinatra, a Life'. It was just published
and was quite well written. I also read 'Dean and Me; a Love Story.
The books have a conflict which I hoped you might clear up. The
book on Sinatra says that he (Sinatra) did not attend the funeral,
but sent flowers. In his book Lewis says that he spoke with Frank
outside after the service.
Would you be so kind as to clear up this point?
I thank you for taking the time to read this and hope that all
is well with you and your family. God bless.
Bob Di Carli
Hi Bob,
I didn’t see my Uncle Frank at the Memorial Service. But
Jerry’s eulogy was beautiful.
Deana
Hi Deana,
I don't have a question. Instead I will say that I am a 31 yr
old man who always endured your father's career. From the music
to movies I’ve enjoyed them all. My personal fav. song is
My Rifle, My Pony, and me with Ricky Nelson. That western movie
with also John Wayne will always be my fav. I just recently found
out about the festival in your father's hometown I'm from Canton
and never knew about it. Please send me info on it so I can attend.
Thank You,
Terry Milini
Hi Deana,
I would like to see you in the Boston area sometime. Your father
was and continues to be great therapy for me and I just finished
your wonderful book about him....tomorrow it's on to the recipe
you included.
Many thanks!
John
Dear Deana,
Any plans on coming to Albany, NY for a book signing? I
am halfway through the book and I love it. It’s been
a pleasure learning about your dad through your words.
Nicole
Dear Deana,
Enjoyed your book about your father immensely! I grew up
in Claremont, California therefore it was fun to hear about the
old L.A. haunts also. I have one question. I made,
last evening, your grandmother's Pasta Fagioli. I don't know
whether I did something wrong, however, was there a missing spice
ingredient not printed in the recipe? I did add the cinnamon!
My best to you,
Janet Vincze
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Hi Janet,
I’m glad you enjoyed my book. My Grandmother’s
recipe, is printed exactly as she taught me. As you know, it
was my Father’s favorite. But remember, I added the caveat, “Season
with salt & pepper to taste.”
Deana
Hello Deana,
I come from Egypt, and I like your dad so much as he is the King
of Cool. I wanted to ask why didn't your dad ever visit Egypt?
And what did he think about Egypt?
Ahmed El Swefy
Hi Ahmed,
He always wanted to visit the pyramids, but, as far as I
know, he never had the opportunity.
Deana
Dear Deana,
Don’t have a question for you. Just wanted you to know how
much I love listening to you on the Music of Your Life. I travel
from South Portland, Maine to work in Dover, N.H. and just love
you guys. I am a trumpet player and am 60 years old so I know the
big band era. Played in a few locally when I was younger, about
the same age Les started out at.
Richard Henward
Hi Deana,
I really just have a statement for you. I just finished your book.
I have to say, I don't read many books and I laughed and even had
a tear or two. It was very good. One more little detail if you
wanted to know. I was told I had multiple sclerosis 5 years ago.
I just have to say because of the variety shows and CD's of your
fathers I don't even think about my illness when watching and listening
to them. Just wanted to let you know.
Bless you,
J.Stacherski
Michigan
Dear Deana,
What an excellent tribute to your father I found "Memories
Are Made Of This" to be. Last year I read Ricci's work and
while his was great from a macho perspective, yours was more heartfelt
and put me there at 601 Mountain all those years ago. I appreciated
the opportunity to read it. I just wanted you to know you are giving
so much when you keep your father in the minds and hearts of his
old fans by adding fresh perspectives. And you welcome the new
fans by giving glimpses into what a great entertainer and human
being he was.
Some Came Running and Rio Bravo are my favorites of his movies
because he was so believable in them and it seemed he not only
was really enjoying making them, he was serious about putting out
a great product. My Dad is 72 and we see Rio Bravo together at
least once a year. My Dad's favorite thing to do is watch TV. My
buddy Robert and I have dinner at The Arches in Newport Beach
every year in honor of your father and Frank. They will be in our
hearts and minds next week when we make a toast to the greatest
of cool, Dino & Frank. And if you and John ever make it down
to Newport, dinner is on us.
Tim Black
Costa Mesa
Dear Deana,
I’m 56 years old and I’ve been a fan of your father
since 1967 I listen to his music every day he the best. The only
thing I wish I could have done is met your father.
Thank you,
Nick Bishop
Hi Deana,
Just wanted to drop a line & let you know how inspirational
Dean is to me. I am a Steubenville boy who has moved away & said
that Dean made it possible to be very successful from our town.
I have modeled all over the world including been seen in: Cosmo,
Muscle & Fitness, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Edge, and
on Etv!. I also own my own gym & run a successful nationwide
personal training company by age 27. Just wanted to let you know
how much he was a big reason why I believe anything can happen.
Thanks,
Cory Gregory
Hey Deana!
Just a short note to say I loved your book. I’ve read it
4 times already. I want you too know I loved your dad and can honestly
say I have every record he ever recorded and then some. I would
like to ask you one question, as I am a watch collector also. The
bracelet watch your dad wore. What kind of watch is it and is white
or yellow gold? I’ve seen hundreds of pictures and can't
seem too figure it out. Oh well, so much for the short note. Take
care and god bless.
All my best,
Joe Nickel
Hi Joe,
It was yellow gold and it was his favorite watch.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I am 43 years old, and I have been a huge fan of your father's
since I was about 5 years old. Maybe you can guess what initially
sparked my interest. Sharing a name that is not all that
common in the US may have been what first attracted me to your
dad, but the talent, the music, and the aura are what have made
me a life-long fan. I wish I could tell you what your father
has meant to me over the years, but I really am having trouble
finding adequate words, and I find it is a topic that brings to
many thoughts to mind to put in just one e-mail. I stumbled onto
your web site quite by accident, and I am very happy that I did. I
did not know that you had put out a book on your dad, and I will
make it a point to get a copy of it as soon as possible.
You mentioned a second book tour. Do
you have any firm dates, and will you be anywhere near New Haven, CT? I
would love the opportunity to meet you, even if ever so briefly, and have you
sign my book.
Thank you for your work and for reading this e-mail.
Sincerely,
Dino Cortina
Ps:
I'll tell you a secret: Frank was the man, and he was cool,
but your father was cooler, and Frank knew it.
Hi Dino,
I love saying that. Thank you for your heartwarming email.
I will be performing in concert in New York later this fall
and I hope you will have the opportunity to attend. I have
been on four fabulous book tours and have enjoyed meeting thousands
of people. Please let me know your thoughts after you read
my book “Memories Are Made Of This.”
Deana
Hi Deana,
Just saw you in concert at the Paramount Theatre December 10th
and it was great. My husband and I bought your book, which
you signed for us. Thanks a million!! My family and
I loved your father and you look just like him. My husband
and I want to come to Steubenville in 2007. When is the next
festival so I can arrange my schedule accordingly? I love
reading about your Dad--had no idea about his private live. I
was just a kid myself growing up and watching his TV show and listening
to his songs. Well thanks again and I really do hope I hear
from you. (My husband sang for you a little at the book signing
and you picked up you head and said, "OH you really do sound
like him".
God Bless.
Sandra Reti
Hi Sandra,
The 2007 Dean Martin Festival in Steubenville will be held
this year on June 14th through the 17th. All pertinent
information can be found on my website at deanamartin.com and
click on “Dean Martin Festival.” I hope to see
you there.
Deana
Hi Deana,
You were so kind to answer a question for me a while back. I have
been reading other questions from others overseas looking for VHS
and DVD's that can be played outside of the US. One thing I can
recommend to help is having them do an internet search or check
with local stores for region free DVD players. Then they should
be able to watch and enjoy all of Dean's movies.
Hope this helps other fans!
HUGS,
Lauri
Hi Deana,
I'm reading the Dean Martin's Biography "King of the Road",
by Michael Freedland. Is that the more reliable one? I love Dean.
And I thank him for having increased the Italian pride.
Vincenzo Mazzara
Hi Vincenzo,
My book, “Memories are Made of This” is the
most reliable one, because I actually knew him.
Deana
Hi Deana,
No questions just wanted to say your dad was is and always will
be in my heart like my parents and grandparents great entertainer
someone I loved and adored still listen to his music today thank
you for keeping him alive in my heart and many others god bless.
Mike Tumminelli
Dear Deana,
I don't want to ask a question I just wanted to write you and
say "Thank You" to you and your family for sharing your
father with many people who loved him. One of which is me. I
fell in love with your father at age 14 and when other girls were
playing the Beach Boys, Dave Clark Five, etc., I was playing my
Dean Martin albums. I am a 55 year old woman now who still
feels the same about Dean Martin 41 years later. The day
your father passed away, I cried with your family. I received
your book as a Christmas present and it is Wonderful, Open and
very full of love. Thank you again for opening your heart,
your home, and your life with people like me, who was one of your
father's biggest fans. My God Richly Bless You and Your Family
and I wish you all the best success with your book. Thank
you and your family again for sharing your father with millions
of people who loved him. Cherish his memories!
Sincerely,
Wanda Hamm
P.S. I lost my father six years ago and I truly do understand
your loss.
Dear Deana,
First, I wish you both the best in the New Year. Just received
Jerry Lewis’ book a week ago, and can't wait to start reading.
While I'm thinking about it, I would like to throw my hat in the
ring and encourage the possibility of having Jerry in Steubenville
this June. What a wonderful way to complete a sentimental
journey of his, then to have him as a guest this year. Please
see what you can do. You told me once that he would be receptive
to the idea.
Also, is there any possible way to have your Dad's complete Christmas
shows made available to the public?
Those probably have not been seen in at least 35 years.
Thanks for your hard work keeping your father's name alive for
all us fans. See you in Steubenville in June.
Robert and Carole Azzarello
Dallas, Texas
Dear Deana,
I don't have a question for you today, but just wanted to talk
to you. I'm 75 years old, living in Valparaiso, Indiana and
listen to you each morning as I wake up. I enjoy "Music
of Your Life" so much that I wanted your book for Christmas. I
just finished your book and it was great. Many years ago
my wife (who passed away in 2003) and I saw your father perform
at the MGM hotel in Las Vegas. It must have been in the 60s. Anyway
it was before the MGM burned down. His show was really great
and we both enjoyed it so much. I also remember after the
show riding on the same elevator with 2 of the Golddiggers. I
still remember how beautiful they were. Your dad had great
taste. I listen to you every day on 1500 (I think WAKE) in
Valparaiso. Keep playing the Music Of My Life. Would
like to meet you sometime.
Glenn
Hello Deana,
Thank you for the opportunity to send you a question. You
are a busy person, so this is very nice of you to do for your fans.
My question is - in your wonderful book "Memories are Made
of This", on page 59, you mention a recording made by Sammy
Cahn of a party thrown by Jeanne at the Villa Capri for your father. Do
you think this will ever be produced for purchase? It seems
that this would be a real treasure to hear.
As millions of other fans, my family has always felt a special
connection with your father. My Uncle Antonino, who had a
resemblance to your father, lived next door to us. As young
children we truly believed that we lived next to Dean Martin!! We
were thrilled! What great memories.
Listening to your father’s recordings and movies really holds
a special place in our hearts.
For many, many years we have been fans, and it is an honor to send
you a note.
Sincerely,
Lou Martin

Hi Lou,
The party at the Villa Capri was a fabulous private welcome
home gathering for my Father. Presently, there are no plans
for a public release.
Deana
Hi Deana,
No question. Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed
reading "Memories are Made of This". I've loved
your dad since I was 11 years old and I'm now 51. My grandmother
turned me onto him when his TV show first came on the air saying: "Isn't
he sweet? He's so handsome...” etc. Eventually I started
watching and just fell in LOVE with him. Read every movie
magazine that had stories about him and his family, etc. Kept
his picture on the wall in my bedroom. When I turned 21,
my mother and I went to Las Vegas for the first time. We
planned the trip around when he'd be at MGM (the first one). When
I saw him walk out onto that stage for the first time, I thought
I'd died and gone to heaven. I went to his show three times
that week and sat ringside every time (my mother slipped a few
$$ to the waiter!). In all, I saw him ~12 times between Las
Vegas and Atlantic City. When my grandmother was 83, we took
her to AC to see him. It was snowing that day and we had
to drive about 2 hours to get there. I asked her if she still
wanted to go and she said 'of course, we have to see Dean. Columbus
took a chance, we should too'. I miss him very much. Thanks
for a great book and great insight into his life and that of your
family.
Sincerely,
Mary McGinnis
Dear Deana,
No question, just a few lines to express a few thoughts and feelings,
WOW! What a neat book, you’ve done well. Grew up in Steubenville,
currently live in Cleveland. So much in your book is relevant to
me, including your mother being from here, and your Dad from there.
Knew many people back home that knew your Dad, several that knew
him rather well. Got to see a performance at the old MGM Grand,
probably around 1974(?) I think. My Steubenville friends got his
autograph for me, as well. Geez, I can remember buying 45s of your
Dad’s in the 60'S and 70'S back home. Just so many neat memories
of the "KING OF COOL". It’s unbelievably true.
No doubt about it. "The best ever" is from my hometown!

Dear Deana,
I have been a fan of Dean’s since I was 14 (in the 60's). My
father, who passed away this year, 'til the end talked about the
time Dean came and sat at his table at a club where Dean was performing
in Ohio in the 40's.
I just got the latest compilation of his works, "The Essential
Dean Martin" which I am enjoying immensely.
I would like to find a remastered album where his voice is not
over shadowed by the orchestra. Do you have any recommendations
of an album that really shows off your father talent?
James Clark
Hi James,
Yes. All of them.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I read your book about your dad recently and loved it. I
have all the tapes, discs of his variety show plus all his roasts.
Your dad is one of the few 'real' entertainers I can actually relate
to.
I'm a 77 year old retired educator with every degree you can think
of including a PhD. Dean brought me respite from my professional
life.
By the way, I notice that his voice is frequently used as background
for many movies today. I honestly believe he will be remembered
long after the Crosbys, Comos, Sinatras and so on are but dim recollections.
Most sincerely,
Dr. Charlie Fox
Hi Deana,
I love your Dad!!!! From his number one fan from Las Cruces,
New Mexico. When I’m feeling down, he’s always there
to pick me up!

Hi Deana,
Have always admired your dad very much on screen and also with
the beautiful songs he sang. There is one special song I
love entitled, "I Will." Can you tell me what year
that was made?
Every time I hear his songs, I could just picture him with that
BIG smile of his; he is still so admired by so many... a very talented,
good-hearted human being.
May God Bless You and Your Sweet Family.
Take Care,
Sera

Hi Sera,
I love that song too! “I Will” was written
by Dick Glasser and my Dad recorded it in 1965. Thank
you for your sweet letter.
Deana
