The Dean Martin Festival is an annual event celebrating
the life and career of Deana's father in his hometown of Steubenville,
Ohio. The festival offers fans a wide array of activities
including entertainment, special film screenings, memorabilia shows and
above all the chance to gather together and celebrate Dean Martin's
enduring legacy. "The Dean Martin Committee," a
group with the task of organizing and holding the event, was formed by
Mayor Domenick Mucci in 1996. Deana and her husband John Griffeth
are active participants on the committee and in the event which is not
only a boon to the local economy but also helps fund the Dean Martin
Scholarships; awarded to worthy students in the area. Recently the highway
running through Steubenville was renamed "Dean Martin Boulevard" and
in 2002, with great support from the Dean
Martin fan community, Deana & John successfully lobbied the Ohio
State legislature and had her father's birthday declared an official
state holiday. Dean Martin Day is celebrated yearly on June 7th. To date, Dean Martin is the only entertainer
to be given such an honor; recognizing not only his enormous
contributions to show business, but also the humanitarian efforts which
were so much a part of his life and which his children are so proud to
continue today.
