Memories Are Made of This - The Album

Memories Are Made of This - The Book

February 2007

Hello Deana,

My name is Steve, and I am hooked on listening to your show on the radio. I am impressed that you take the time to have a morning weekend show too. It's great music and is indeed The Music of My Life. I live east of Branson in no-where-ville Cedarcreek, and it makes me proud what a great ambassador you are for the Branson area. Both you and Les reflect the values and virtues that make this area one of the best in the country. I just want to say thank you.
I had wondered however, is she really a Branson area resident or is the show taped somewhere else? Imagine my surprise where I brought this up with our every Friday night dinner gang and a friend pipes up, "Oh ya, she and her husband come in here every couple of weeks".  You could knocked me over with a feather, I actually know someone whose met you and it's true, you live right here. I haven't been so impressed since I met Andy Williams at the Branson Meadows theater last year.
Real stars are real people. Sorry if I'm long winded. Someday I dream of attending one of you local concerts here in town. The very best to you and yours.

Your friend,
Steve Wieczor

Dear Deana,

Wow, read the letters of fans, and I’m one of the biggest of your dad. I have all of his CDs he was the greatest.  I didn't know you had concerts but its now Feb 2007 and I would love to see you perform. I live in north Florida but visit my kids who live in Vegas. Is it possible to catch a show in Fl or Vegas in 07?
I would have given so much to have just met your Dad once in my life. I will also try to find a copy of your book. I had read the Nick Trosches book on your Dad.  I also went on a Beverly Hills tour and saw his home on Mountain Ave. Did you live there at that time with him?
Hope u can respond.

Phil DePalma

Hi Phil,

We have been both in Florida and Las Vegas this year and we will be returning. I am not certain as to the specific dates as of today but we are currently working on a new tour schedule for the fall.  The month of May and June, I am performing in concert with Les Brown and his Band of Renown in Branson, Missouri. On June 14 I will be in concert in Chicago, then the 15 in Cleveland and later that day in Steubenville, OH for the Dean Martin  Festival. As other concerts are scheduled, they will be posted on my website at www.deanamartin.com under “Tours and Events”.

Deana

Hi Deana,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my E-mail. And what a time to do it as I started today to read your book about your dad. Memories Are Made Of This. I am not a reader of books when I finish this it will be only the 4th book in my life I will have finished. The others being The Mickey Mantle Story. From back in the 50’s, The Joe Torre Story and the Sinatra Book, by Nancy. I am enjoying your book very much. Hope to catch one of your shows.

Thanks again.
Frank Malena

Hi Deana,

I bought your CD. One problem with it. It's too short. Bring out another.

Don Barnes

Hi Deana,

I got to meet you a few years ago at the Dean Martin festival. I just want to say that your dad would be very proud of you. I just bought your CD and you have a terrific voice. I was just wondering if you might be coming up to the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area with your show this year or in the near future. I would like to take my wife to your show. Also are you going to perform in Steubenville this year? Hope to here from you soon and again a great CD.

Bill MacFarlane

Hi Bill,

Yes, we will be returning to New York again later this year for a concert. The month of May and June, I am performing in concert with Les Brown and his Band of Renown in Branson, Missouri.  As other concerts are scheduled, they will be posted on my website www.deanamartin.com under “Tours and Events”.  And  yes, I will be performing at the Dean Martin Festival again this year.  I hope to see you there.

Deana

Dear Deana,

I was given your book as a Christmas gift by a dear friend recently. She gave it to me for two reasons; one, that I am a huge fan of your father, and two, that I am a huge fan of my own father, who I lost this past Easter (2006) and whom I miss terribly. It warmed my heart to read such a loving account of a father and daughter relationship, and was very cathartic for me. My Dad was not an international entertainer, but he possessed the same kind of good looks, charm and wit that your Dad had, and he was loved by all that knew him. Everyone just wanted to be around him. Thanks for your book. I hope that one day our paths will cross.

With love and gratitude,
Sue Williams

Hi Sue,

I loved your letter. Thank you for sharing your father with me as I have shared mine with you. I am very sorry for your loss. Reading your description of your father, I must agree, our dads do sound very much alike. They were two wonderful gentlemen with daughters that love and miss them. Thank you for your kind words about my book and I look forward to the day when our paths do cross.

Deana

Hi Deana,

I read “Memories Are Made Of This” and remembered the mentioning of the necklace one of your sisters gave to your father. Then I was watching one of the Colgate Comedy Hours with a friend and she asked me what it was, she is catholic them asked me what saint it was. I can't remember and can't find it again in the book could you tell me? I might just have to read the book again it was very lovely book.

Thanks,

Trisha Cimaomo

Hi Trisha,

My sister, Claudia, gave my Father a gold St. Christopher’s medal and he never took it off.  I’m so glad you liked my book and thank you for your letter.

Deana

Hallo Deana!

We are from Austria and we love your music.

Congratulations.
Reinhard and Doris

Hi Deana,

My husband was listening to your radio show and told me you said The Fleetwoods were from Washington, D.C.  Actually, they were from Olympia, the capital of the state of Washington. Fleetwood was their telephone prefix in the days before everything was numbers.

Sharon Williamson

Dear Deana,

Your father was the greatest entertainer and I loved him dearly. Deana, you are a very close second to him, you are great also. I listen to you daily on "Music Of Your Life" on WTLA in Syracuse, New York. Deana, keep up the good work.

Love,
Bob Buck

Hi Deana,

I just watched your Dad's That's Amore DVD. It is the Greatest! My Question why not have a DVD with your Dad singing duets with all his musical guests from his show. When he performed with the Mills brothers and others it was fantastic!! I also saw the clip of your Brother Dean Paul singing small fry. That was such fun to see! I want you to know I am heart broken about your brother’s death.

Sincerely,
Nick Simmons

Hi Deana,

You have a very wonderful morning show, your Sat/Sun shows are great too. I see Johnnie Magnes is no longer on Sat/Sun? He's such a great person and I and probably other listeners would like to know how he's doing? What is he doing now? And is he all right and not sick or something. We all here in Hobart, Indiana listen to your show all the time. I'd appreciate your answer and by the way you are so very beautiful and such a gifted singer like your father who I enjoyed every song he ever sang!

Thank you, Deana.
Missy Roberson

Hi Deana,

I just love the music. Keep it up!

Ginger, 13

Dear Deana,

What happened? For some time I have enjoyed you in the AM on WIOX, Southern Pines, NC. Now Carl Hampton?
You brightened my mornings with your music and stories of your "Uncles". Your Dad and his Dad and your growing up in So. Calif.  Will you be back? What stores carry your CD? I love your rendition of "Amore". Will you do any duets with Dad?

God Bless,

Donald G. Bartrip,
Pinehurst, NC

Hi Donald,

This happens sometimes in radio, I’m sorry to say, but there is a solution. My show is also available over the internet, so you can listen online at musicofyourlife.com or kixi.com.  My shows are on from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday.  Please let me know how this works for you.  The CD is available wherever music is sold or online at places like Amazon.com or iTunes.

Deana

Hello Deana,

I just want to let you know that my wife and I listen to you every morning and just recently discovered you were a singer and had a CD out.  You played some of the tracks on The Music Of Your Life station and we enjoyed it very much so we bought your CD and we are so pleased.  It is a wonderful collection of great songs and you indeed treat every one of them with great respect.  You sing them as they were
Written and we enjoy listening it to very much. We especially love the duet you did with Jerry Lewis, that is sooo precious.  I even heard a song that your Dad sang, On an Evening in Roma, which I had never heard before. Now I am a BIG fan of your Dad's I have many records and CD and I just bought the Ultimate Dean Martin CD and I have many karaoke CDs
of his, but have never heard this song.  You do it so very well.  And then I discovered I had it on one of his karaoke CD's, I have learned it and it is now one of my favorites.
Thank you again for the many memories of your Dad and new memories of you.

God Bless,
Doreen and Bill Hight

Hi Deana,

As a big fan of your show, I am happy to hear your evening show, but your morning show is not being aired in my area anymore. The Music Of Your Life is still on but with another Host. I am disappointed. I miss you in the morning. I listen on 1370 Manchester, NH.  I have read your book and enjoyed it very much, it was quite moving, I also bought your CD and play it quite often, and I am looking forward to your next CD.

Carol Cornellier

Hi Deana,

I'm a new listener. I found you on the web through a local radio station that carries Music of Your Life. You have a great voice and thanks for the great music.

Richard
Bethesda, Maryland

Dear Deana,

I enjoy your show and I would like to know if you have a web page because I’m interested in the Dean Martin festival I heard you announce.

Jamie Akins

Hi Deana,

I enjoy the music of your life and I listen to you on AM860 in Marion Indiana. I noticed last Monday (2/12/07) that you and Les were not on in the 08:00 to 10:00 slot. I called WMRI AM 860 and they would not tell me why. I then sent an email to the Music of your life in Fl and they advised me that you are now on from 6:00- to 8:00 AM. That presents a problem for me, as AM860 is a Dawn to Dusk station and I cannot receive their signal until after 8:00AM as the government says it does not get daylight until 8:00AM in this part of Indiana in the winter. I can get you on the Internet, but I can't carry my computer to different rooms. I enjoy the information that you give us about the different artist and the songs.  I still listen to Music of your life, it’s just not as good without you.

Paul F Dolby

Hi Paul,

I am happy to report that I am now back in my original time slot of 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM EST.  Thanks for listening!

Deana

Dear Deana,

I am missing you on the Music of Your Life radio show.  Seems like it's been a couple of weeks that you are not hosting the 8 am thru 10 a.m. morning show.
Are you on vacation?  Please tell me you are both coming back.  I really do miss you both.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Berry

Hi, Deana!

What a breath of fresh air!  I hear you on KIXI, Seattle.  I am very glad that you now have your own afternoon show---between the two, I usually get you sometime, since I spend a lot of time in my car.
But I must confess:  I am in Love!  You have captivated my heart.  Just tell your loving husband that I'm next!  Seriously, you exude a special spirit, and I can tell that you are a unique person!
Just a couple of more things:  The best thing that I remember about your dad was a picture I saw of him in a national mag, out in the corral with his Arabians.  He looked more at home there than anywhere else.  I wish that I could get that picture--it cut through all the 'rat-pack' stuff, just showing a mature man who felt at ease with where he was. The best word to describe him would be 'elegant'.  Not hard to tell where you get it from!
Also, I haven't heard you 'guys' play any of Billy Ekstein.  I'm an 'old dog' and remember well how much I enjoyed "Kiss of Fire" and "I Apologize".  Could you put them in the mix?

Thank you, Deana, for being Deana!
Doug Hardy

Hi Deana,

I am a retired NYC Police Sergeant, retired many years ago. I was born and raised in an Italian neighborhood; everyone loved your father and was very proud of him. My Mom and Dad have passed on and I contact them through your father's music; I know that it may sound insane but believe me it has merits. Thanks for all that you and your family have given us. God Bless.

Gennaro Calvanese

Dear Deana,

When are you going to come out with a Martin Recipe book? I would love a book with you and your Dad's favorite dishes! By the way, I stopped by your dad's resting place yesterday. It is a small cemetery. I thanked him from all his work that will live on forever.

Frankie,
33 The Valley

Dear Deana,

I started listening to your radio program through KIXI in Seattle just last year. Your father's music was a big part of my childhood growing up as an Italian American in the '50's and '60's,in Washington State. My father, a WWII veteran and B-17 bomber pilot, smiled whenever he heard Dino or Frank crooning on the radio. My father passed away in 2005, some time after you lost your dad; we played Dino's "Amore" on the stereo while my father passed from this life to the next. Your dad's music made my dad happy. Even now, "Amore" makes my 21 yr old son cry - as a third generation Italian, it would have made my father proud to know that Dino's music lives in his grandson's soul. I miss my father everyday, as I know you miss yours. Thanks for keeping the music alive, Deana.

Sandy Carpine

Hi Deana!

I enjoy you in the morning. I hear you at 3:00 AM. When you mentioned John Mill's daughters you said Hayley and Donna. Hayley is right, but Donna is not. His other daughter is Juliet. Donna Mills was one of the ladies on Knots Landing. I hope I have cleared things up.
I listen to you on KKAD in Portland, OR.

Nancy Fandrem

Hi Deana,

It is great to hear songs of the 50s 60s, 70s it touches my heart and brings back times in my life. Your dad Dean, Frank and Tony Bennett are the greatest singers of all times. It's a time that will never be replaced. I must tell you that I named my youngest son Dean after your father.  He was the greatest in my book. Keep up the good work that you are doing, your music keeps me going.

Thank you,
Tony Daquino

Dear Deana,

Just like to tell you about my niece. She’s 5. I’ve trained her well. She gets in the car and demands Dean on the CD especially as she calls it that pasta song. She knows Jerry Lewis as that nice mans friend. She would love to see you so we wait for your UK visit.

Gina

Hi Deana,

I listen to you in the morning all the time on 1370 AM, which comes out of Manchester, NH. Sometimes the stations fades out or they go to a current sporting event. Is there other station in my area where I can tune to, or maybe a FM station? Thank you and I think your station is really great, love the music, I bought your new CD and it is very enjoyable. Again thank you.

Pat Holmes

Hi Pat,

This happens sometimes in radio, I’m sorry to say, but there is a solution. My show is available over the internet so you can listen online at musicofyourlife.com or kixi.com and you can listen anytime you would like. I hope you find this helpful.

Deana

Hi Deana,

Just want to tell you that your program with John is terrific! My wife and I listen to you every day...and by the way, your Saturday program is great, too. NOW, where have you guys been for the past 2 weeks? We listen to you on 740 AM in Williamsburg, VA. Gosh, we truly MISS you and hope all is well. Thanks again for your music and comments. We love them!!!

Ray Seward

Hi Deana,

I grew up as a rock fan, and pretty much still am, but I remembered watching the Dean Martin Show as a kid and I always thought he was pretty cool. So I recently bought The Essential Dean Martin CD and have been listening to it, pretty much non-stop, for weeks now. My Zepplin CD's have been gathering dust ha ha. Tonight I have been surfing, finding Dean's biography and fan club sites.

Larry Alexander

Dear Deana,

I purchased your book last year. I read it through it was an outstanding read. The book is excellently written - your storytelling is both articulate & fascinating. I enjoyed the book thoroughly. I recently purchased a DVD through a Sinatra friend of mine. It was your dad’s 1967 X-mas show w/ the Sinatra family. I particularly enjoyed the part where you &
Tina sang & danced w/ Mr. S. & your dad. I heard your recent duet w/ Mr. Lewis on the local Sinatra show here in Philly. I must tell you it was excellent. I thought your phrasing was on the mark you have a beautiful voice & Mr. Lewis is an excellent singer. Both of your voices blended perfectly. Mr. S., your dad & Mr. Davis are to me the 3 greatest entertainers of the 20th century. Deana, I thank you for your book. I was glad to see both your family & the Sinatra families were close. I also noticed Mr. Sinatra was close to you & your family. That was heartwarming to me.

Sincerely,
Frank Cullura

Hello Deana,

How are you? Is their going to be a 2007 Dean Martin fest?

Mary Pat

Hi Mary Pat,

Yes, there is going to be a 2007 Festival.  You can get the current schedule of events at:  my web site deanamartin.com and click on Dean Martin Festival. I hope to see you there.

Deana

Hi Deana,

I am a Sinatra fan of sixty years and have CDs, Cassettes and videos of Frank and Dean. They are two of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century. I love to hear you talk about your experiences with them I listen to MOYL everyday.

Ed Carr

Dear Deana,

I’m Nellie Guba, from  Manila, Philippines, but now a residence of Seattle, Washington, working as a Nursing Assistant in a Rehabilitation and Nursing House, here in Seattle. I am an avid fan of you and John Griffeth. Starting at 5:00 o’clock in the morning on my way to work till I get home at 2:30 P.M. until you say bye-bye at 6:00 P.M., not to say that all my residence at the nursing home tuned their radios at KIXI, Music of your Life.
I am also a big fan of your Dad, Dean Martin and my favorite is the Hole in the Head (I don't know if that is the right title).
I enjoy your program very much, and keep up the good work and music. By the way I'm 65 years old, only my age, but not my looks, I am a regular Ballroom dancer  (Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights and a member of the USABDA, United States Amateur Ballroom Dancer), it's a nationwide organization of ballroom dancers.

Sincerely yours,
Nellie

Hi Deana,

I enjoy your music very much and enjoyed your Dad's career with Jerry Lewis, his own solo career including movies, and his television show. I listen here in Topeka, KS on KTOP. Do you still keep in touch with Jerry Lewis? How is his health? Lately I noticed they have moved you to 5-7 a.m. I also noticed you don't do the mornings on Saturday or Sunday anymore? Are the shows rotated around so that you have an opportunity to work in the morning and or the late afternoon? Keep working on CD's and keep up the good work. Thanks for the memories.

Michael Huffman

Hi Michael,

Yes I stay in touch with my Uncle Jerry and he is doing wonderfully. Our radio show does move around a bit from time to time but my new times are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM EST with my co-host the handsome John Griffeth and then 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for the Deana Martin Show. Thanks for listening and yes, I have another new CD coming out soon.

Deana

Dear Deana,

I'm 47, probably a little younger than most of your dad's fans, but just want you to know that he is the king of cool for me. The coolest guy ever, plus my dad kind of looked like him. Stopped by and paid my respects when I was in California a few years back. Loved your book by the way. Thank you for that. Hoping to make it to Steubenville this year for his birthday. Thanks.

John Matranga

Hi John,

And I hope to see you there.

Deana

Dear Deana,

I just finished reading "Memories Are Made Of This" and want you to know how much I enjoyed it.  I have been a fan of your Dad and "Uncle Frank" for many years. Thank you for letting me, us into the lives of your family.

Best wishes always,
Joe Mormino

Dear Deana,

I enjoy listening to your music program at our Jax. Florida 1220 AM radio station. I would like to hear a song by Johnny Mathis, which I think was titled " Life is how you make it". I wonder if you can play it for me and also help me find in what CD Title I can find this song so that I can buy it. I think it is a beautiful & meaningful song. Thank you so much.

Ben Serafica

Hi Deana,

Some time ago, I watched "Texas Across the River" with your Dad and Joey Bishop among many others and thought it was hilarious. I have tried many times to find the video of it, and have not been successful. Do you know why? Does someone have a lock on it for some reason?

Annette Myers

Hi Annette,

I’m sorry to say that it was never licensed to be released on video or DVD.  But, it was a great movie.

Deana

Hi Deana,

I've been listening to you for over a year now, on our local station, KVIN out of Modesto, California.  It seems like most people who write to you always talk about how great your dad was.  I totally agree with them.  I loved it when he was on TV with the gold-diggers and I have the whole set of his roasts.  Boy if that isn't a generation that will NEVER be duplicated again, ever.
I love your singing voice so I had to find your website to see what you look like.  Awesome.  Lots of resemblance there to the guy who played in my favorite western movies:  Rio Bravo and Sons of Katie Elder, to name a couple.  Two of my favorites songs of his are "Evening in Roma," and "Innamorata."  (and I'm not even Italian, I'm Welsh).. Hope you write back, may you be on the Music Of Our Lives for a long time to come.

Jim Waddell
Oakdale, CA

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your very sweet letter. I do look a lot like my Dad. And as luck would have it, you have picked two of my favorite westerns and two of my favorite songs. Thank you listening to the Music Of Your Life, and if you will keep listening I will keep playing the music.

Deana

Dear Deana,

There is a song that Andy Williams sang from a movie while in a car. "Almost There".  I do not know if this is the title but would be nice to hear it again.

Alan
Seattle, Washington

Hi Deana,

Just wandering what day or days this year is Dean Martin Day in Steubenville. Thank You.

Ed & Christine

Hi Ed and Christine,

The dates are June 14th through 17th, 2007.  You can find the current schedule of events on my website at deanamartin.com and click on Dean Martin Festival. I hope to see you there.

Deana

Hello Deana,

I keep the books I've enjoyed reading, & I just finished re-reading yours. Can't remember if I found this website previously. Your father's favorite cologne, WOODHUE, is available in its original formula via the Vermont Country Store catalog. Don't know whether it'd make you feel good, or sad, to wear it, but it is available in the women's version (WOODHUE). It's wonderful that you've been so busy singing, etc.

Blessings,
Melissa

Hi Deana,

I love Music of Your Life!
A week or two ago you mentioned that Donna Mills was Hayley Mills' sister.  Juliet Mills is her sister.

Thanks!
Cheryl

Hello, Deana!

Up early, turned the radio on and voila! Heard you reading the mail of KIXI listener John Bart's letter praising your dad.  And, yes, we do indeed get your MYL program here, in the ever-greening Seattle area, from 3-6 weekday afternoons. Keep up the good work, doing your part keeping this beautiful music alive. I'm a regular. Local time 4:56 A.M. Didn't know you came on at this time as well. Oh, and received your new album for my 73rd birthday from daughters Susie and Cindy. Love it!

Jerry F. Ray,
Lynnwood, WA

Dear Deana,

I listen to your radio show on Kixi880 nearly every day. Being of a certain age I miss hearing singers of the "forties" such as Jane Froman, Vera Lynn, and Edith Piaf. They had wonderful voices. Perhaps at some time you could play some of their records. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Monte

Hi Deana,

I live in Prescott Valley, Arizona, 86314, which is about 90 miles from Phoenix. No Phoenix radio channels get clear reception in Prescott Valley. Could you provide me the call letters of a radio station that might get a signal in this area? Thank you.

Edward Hiscott

Hi Deana,

Was I ever your waiter in Rochester NY for you and your Dad at Friendly's Restaurant. Love your show, both on 68 WINR in Binghamton NY,

Brian Wood

Hi Brian,

It’s a very good possibility. I’m glad you love the show.

Deana

Dear Deana,

I often listen to 920 am here in Turlock, Ca., usually on the car radio on my way to and from golf course.  On the way home one day last week I heard this divine female voice naming the songs and identifying artists and adding warm and interesting comments about the music I so dearly love, and I thought, this girl is really too good to be true.  A heard the name, "Deana Martin" and I of course thought of your father, thinking it was only coincidence, until you confirmed that Dean is in fact your Dad.  May I just say, you bring so much warmth and color and class into your work and to my enjoyment of the music I love that I just love you!  You are a special act and I hope you know it.  The person behind that beautiful voice is genuine, and a blessing I thank you for sharing!

Bud Farrar

Hi Deana,

I'm so excited to be writing you.  Honestly, I don't know where to start.  You are my bridge to the past.  I have a genuine fondness for the stars of early Hollywood; moreover; I'm a huge fan of the golden years of radio.  Of course, your Dad was a big part of this as well, and I often listen to the radio program he did with Jerry Lewis. Of course, he was a radio star on so many other shows as well.
I enjoy your insight into this earlier time period, as you often mention growing up and living near so many of the great stars.  I must admit, I'm a big fan of Jack Benny.  I can't tell you how excited I was when you mentioned his birthday over Valentines Day and discussed a bit of his personality -- so nice to hear.
My wife and I love your CD.  We wonder if you're considering a Christmas compilation?  In any case, thank you for sharing so much of your life with us.  As they say, one person can make a difference; you have brought many happy times to my family.

ps. I'm from Livonia Michigan, we just moved out to Seattle (with our three daughters, all under the age of seven) where we listen to you daily.  My children will grow up knowing of you and your wonderful Dad!

Please keep the stories coming!
Ken Cartwright

Dear Deana,

I am a real fan of MYOL. I listen everyday on WCHA in Chambersburg, PA Your Dad was a favorite of mine and when I was growing up, I had such a crush on him. I'm glad you are carrying on his wonderful legacy. I so wanted to go on the Tuscany trip but my Mom was very ill and the timing was all wrong.  Maybe next time.  Keep up the good music.

Joyce McDonald

Hi Deana,

We are a party of 3 and will be in Steubenville from 6/14/07,PM to 6/18/07 staying at the Super 8. What do we have to do to get tickets and participate in as many shows and activities? We want to make this a memorable weekend. I missed you on the Gene Martin show. Thank you.

Frank

Hi Frank,

Just visit my website deanamartin.com and click on Dean Martin Festival and it will take you to all the information concerning festival events. Or you can call Rose Angelica 740-424-0572.

Deana

Hey Deana,

You have a wonderful radio show! I especially like the personal connection you have to the music and the singers, like your Dad and the rest of the "Pack". I don't get to listen to the program except when I can pick it up on the radio while traveling, but I look forward to it each time. I do have a question. There was a song I think I heard on the program that sounded something like the Andrews sisters, but the lyrics talked about once liking an in-your-face rock beat, but now preferring rather to "swing than slam". If you recognize what I'm trying to remember, could you tell me where I could find it? That song was funny and really describes the evolution of my musical tastes. Anyway, thank you so much for your show, and rest assured that it is well appreciated by lots of 50-somethings who are still growing up.

Pat McReynolds

Hi Deana,

Are you ever thinking of a TV show like your Dad? It would be great to have a show like that again on TV. It was a family thing all the family sat around the TV set to See Dean Martin show we need that now in America Again.

Tony

Dear Deana,

I've been listening to you for about 2 months, and it is so nice to hear your voice when I turn on the radio. I’m in Charleston, SC listening to WLTQ 730 AM. You have such a beautiful voice, I can just imagine what your CD sounds like. Some day soon I will purchase your CD. Most of the music you play is just before my time but I always loved it. Especially music from the War Years. Do you have any recordings of Dean from some of his movies with Jerry Lewis? Also, if you could play more of Dean and the Mills Bros. I would appreciate it very much. Thank you for "the memories" and have a great day.

Sincerely,
Larry Wilder

Hello Deana,

I just purchased you new CD “Memories Are Made Of This” and I love it. It’s beautiful in every sense of the word. There are songs that make me cry and songs that make me laugh. It’s just like your book that I also purchased. You are a fantastic singer, entertainer and author. Can you imagine how very proud your Dad is looking down and smiling at his little girl’s success. As a daughter I am proud, and as an Italian I am very proud of your accomplishments. Now, I am waiting very patiently for your movie, and I know this will be your shining moment.

God Bless you Deana,
Gina Venezia

Dear Deana,

Your dad, what a sexy guy! I was surfing the net late one night last week (couldn't sleep... too much wine, I think!)... Googled "Dean Martin" and I found his one and only video! I remembered seeing it on TV only once or twice when it first came out... so delighted to have found it! It is terrific! Also just acquired and read your book a couple of months ago! Loved it! It is a fabulous tribute to Dean for two of his children to pen books about him in such a loving way. Yours and Ricci's are the best of those cropping up here and there and I even bought and read "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" by Arthur Marx when it was published in 1974. Your dad has always been one of my favs! What a sexy guy! Thank you to you and Ricci for keeping the "Spirit of Dean" alive and well! Take care!

Pam

Hello Deana,

Just a note to let you know that I enjoy listening to your radio show and to your singing. I have a question for you. I remember seeing a movie where your dad wore his cowboy hat and would not take it off.  For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the movie and want to add it to my collection of all time favorite movies.
If you could let me know the name of it, I would be very appreciative.

Sincerely,
Dorian Doyon
Bullhead City, AZ

PS. I do a singles show and do a couple of your dads songs.  "Sway" & "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime".  You hear a lot of singers do Sway, and they do a great job, but it is not the same as when Dean Martin sings it.

Hi Dorian,

The name of the movie is “Some Came Running” starring Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Shirley MacLaine. It was directed by Vincente Minnelli, and it’s one of my favorite movies.

Deana

Dear Deana,

You are definitely a chip off the old block!! Your father was what I consider to be not a star but an entertainer. Today's media guys and gals are more interested in being a celebrity rather than an entertainer. There is a difference. I am glad to see that you are of the "old school". I listen to KKAD, The Music of Your Life here in the Portland, OR, Vancouver, WA area. I have turned on several people to your station and they are just as happy as I with what they hear. Personally, I really like the stories you tell about your father and "Uncle Frank". May I also compliment Jeanne. Despite the hurt and disappointment in her life she was the one who was still there at the end. She is top class in my book and you too have taken on her traits. Keep on keeping on....you rock my World.

Dennis R.

Dear Deana,

What a joy to catch your program on our local radio station. I am of the vintage of your dad and saw him on stage with Jerry Lewis and also in Vegas. It is a delight to hear you sing, and also the great music on your program. Keep up the good work.

Hi Deana,

Congratulations! You CD “Memories Are Made Of This” is burning up the charts. Keep up the great work and when should we be looking for the next release? You know you have to do another one after this success. We’ll be watching.

We will be listening,
Ricky Barzi

Hello Deana,

Love your show and music.  I also get the American Life network (the only thing fit to watch anymore, besides RFD-TV) on cable, which plays the old 77 Sunset Strip TV show.  Next door to the detective agency is Dino's, where Edd (Kooky) Byrnes worked.  The sign outside shows a likeness of your dad.  Did this place really exist, and if it did, did your dad have anything to do with it?
Keep up the good work.  There is so little good music on the radio anymore, and your program is one of the best.

Randy Conrad

Hi Randy,

You were not mistaken, that was my Father’s restaurant and it was Dino’s Lodge, which was regularly featured on the show “77 Sunset Strip”. It was a very fun place to be.

Deana
