I
would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to express
your feelings about my new book,
"Memories Are Made Of This." I am happy to post these on my web site
to share with others. I love hearing from you and thank you for your support
and your heart-warming letters.
Love,
Deana
Dear Deana,
I just finished reading your wonderful book and I want to thank
you for sharing your life with us. I found myself laughing out
loud at the marvelous stories about your Dad and felt the tears
flowing reading the sad ones.
I've been a
fan of your Dad's since the 1950's when he started with Jerry.
He always manages to put a smile on my face, even when its a
bad day. His soothing voice is so comforting - no tranquilizer
can equal it. I've collected all of the Variety Shows. Just seeing
him slide down that pole at the start of each show, one cant
help but smile and get ready for the good feelings that will
follow.
You are one
special lady and your Dad must be beaming with pride.
Thank you again....
Arlene
Dear Deana,
I am reading your book, Memories Are Made of This. I want to tell
you how emotionally sad I am about your mother Betty. Here was
a woman who first lost her husband Dean, who she loved so deeply,
then she lost her house to the IRS, then she lost her four children,
then herself. I feel so emotionally sad for her life. Your mother
had so many misfortunes that she could not overcome. You wrote
a great story about your family and your father and you brought
out the emotional side of their lives. I love your book and will
cherish and read it many times in my life.
Thank you.
Frank
Hello Deana,
I just finished
your book and loved it! I read it in two days!
I wondered what happened to your brother Craig, does he still work
in show business? Angie
Hello
Angie,
I am happy to hear you loved my book. Thank you. As for my brother
Craig, he is retired and living in Palm Springs. He is a fabulous
golfer and plays every day. He is happily married to his beautiful
wife Donna and now has five gorgeous grand children.
Deana
Hi Deana,
Just a note
to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your new book.
Congratulations
and wishing you much success with it!
Sincerely,
Charlie
Deana,
November 9th?
I saw your book in Barnes and Noble today October 28 2004 at
Barnes and Noble in Olympia, Washington. Debby.
Hi
Debby,
Did
you buy it? Are you going to read it? Please let me know and
thanks for the information. It has come to my attention that
my book was on the shelves at a number stores before the release
date. When the store manager was asked why, the response was
that there was an overwhelming demand by the customers. By
the way, I will be in Washington for book signings in a couple
of months. Please watch the
"Appearances and Events" on my web site for information.
Deana
Deana,
(Question #1)
I was recently in Beverly Hills and drove by a number of sites
mentioned in Ricci and your books.
No - I hadn't read yours yet - I just finished it tonight - Oct.
28th! I dined at Di Vinci's - your Dad's booth was not available
- but I ate overlooking it. I urge all Deano fans to stop for a
great meal at Di Vinci's and
talk to the waiter who was there when your Dad was. Two questions:
What has become of the driving range on Wilshire where Dean used
to take you to hit golf balls? Also - what was Dean's golf handicap??
Thank you - and thanks for writing Memories are Made of This.
Deana,
(Question #2)
I just finished
your book, Memories are Made of These - what a perfect title
- and what a beautiful book! Apparently it was released early,
as I took it out from my local library on Oct. 21st.
I've read every book about your Dad, including Ricci's - but yours
is the best! I found particularly interesting your candid writings
about BOTH of your mothers - Betty and Jeannie. The only question
I have is - are you in touch with your step-sister Sasha?
Hi
Ron,
I am
going to answer both of your emails at one time.
Da
Vinci's restaurant is one of our favorites and we have dinner
there regularly. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your dining experience.
I believe you were there on Thursday, October 28th. The reason
dad's booth was occupied was my husband and I were having dinner
with another couple. Next time...say hello. The driving range
on Wilshire Blvd. is now the Federal Building. I remember fondly
the times I spent there with my dad. As for my father's handicap,
when he was at the top of his game, he was a scratch golfer.
Thank
you Ron, for your kind word about my book. I'm very happy to
hear that you think my book is the best. That means a lot to
me. I spent four years writing it and I wanted it to be the
best. I do see Sasha from time to time, but as she lives out
of California I do not see her that often.
Deana
For anyone
who adores Dean Martin and wants to know more about what the
man was really like, this is the best book ever. The other bios
will have all the information and dates and stuff - this book
has the HEART!
Well written, emotionally vulnerable, and honest. Dino is one of
the few celebs that, the more i find out about what he was really
like, the more i like him!
And the pictures are TERRIFIC!
BUY THIS BOOK!
Kimmy
Hi Deana,
I'm a welshman
living in the uk. my question is, would it be possible to get
a family photo of dean and his family, many thanks, john regan
uk.
Hi
John,
I am
happy to say that there are many such pictures in my new book, "Memories
Are Made Of This." It will be released in the UK on November
5th.
All the best.
Deana
Hi Deana,
I have been
an avid fan of your dad's all my life. I always wanted a pair
of those black suede loafers. Were they tailor made? Looking forward
to your book's release.
Johnny
Hi Johnny,
My
father's shoes were custom made by Pasquale Di Fabrizio. You
can read about him at the following web site: http://www.seeing-stars.com/Shop/Shoemaker.shtml
A quote
from the site: Di Fabrizio's first celebrity client was Dean
Martin, who then brought in Frank Sinatra, and the rest is
history.
Deana
Hello Dena,
I would first
like to say thank you for this web site.
My question
is, are there videos of The Dean Martin Show with The Goldiggers
available to purchase?
If so, would you please tell me where they are?
Thank you again.
Regards,
Fran Markham
Dear
Fran,
I'm
happy to hear that you like my web site. Thank you.
As
for The Dean Martin Show with The Goldiggers being available
for purchase, I recommend that you contact Neil Daniels at
the Dean Martin Fan Center: http://www.deanmartinfancenter.com/.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I'm more interested in knowing how YOU are now that your dad is
gone. My dad was known as dean martins twin. Ican remember my girlfriends
having crushes on my dad lol i'm 49 now. The resemblance is amazing.
So naturally your dad became my idol as well. The ironic thing
is that Ilost my dad on christmas eve as well with the same illness.
How do you cope seeing him and hearing him still on tv and radio?
I cry everytime I see your dad or listen to his music. You inspire
me with your strength. Please drop me a line when you can. I'm
so interested in knowing how you are today.
Thank you so much, Linda
Hi
Linda,
Thanks
for your email. I have spent the last four years writing about
this in my book, I hope you will have the opportunity to read
it as I feel it will answer all your questions.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I just wanna
know what it was like living, and growing up with the King of
Cool. I mean for me im in a rough stretch in my life right now
and the only place i feel comfortable is in my car listing to
Dean.
Jason
Hello
Jason,
I write
all about it in great detail in my new book, "Memories
Are Made Of This." I hope you have the opportunity to
read it as it will not only answer your question but also hopefully
lift your spirits. Wishing you well.
Deana
Dear Deana,
I am so happy
that I found this website. I am 52, when I was in High School,
I was a big Dean Martin fan. The other day I found the release
of the essential Dean Martin hits and was so excited. He was
one of the best entertainers and his voice was so beautiful.
You just don't know how I enjoyed watching him through the years.
I was reading some of the e-mails about your Dad and what his
favorites were and it is heartwarming to get more of a personal
sense about him. Will you be offering autographed copies of your
book? If so, please advise how this may be obtained.
Thank you for keeping his memory alive.
Sincerely,
Sonia
Hi
Sonia,
I will
be touring the country doing book signings. If you look under "Appearances

will pass it on to my Publicist to see if we can visit there

Hi Deana
I'm a barber. Did Dean's Father cut Deans hair after his parent
moved out to Ca. And did his Father continue to Barber after he
left Stubenville? George
Hello
George,
My
Grandfather Guy retired his scissors after he left Steubenville.
Deana
Deana,
Although I'm
44, I grew-up listening to your dad's songs and have purchased
a number of his CDs througout the years. I've also recently subscribed
to the Dean Martin Variety Show DVDs and enjoy them immensely.
Your dad was a great entertainer! His music and style was from
a generation that is now gone and greatly missed; an era of prosperity
and innocence in America. I am an avid golfer and always looked
forward to the annual Dean Martin Tucson Open. How good a golfer
was your dad? Dean
Hi
Dean,
At
one point in his life, my father was a scratch golfer. He loved
the game and actually told me that the only reason he worked
so hard was so he could support his family...and play golf.
Deana
Hello Deana,
I have been
a life-time fan of your father. I am British and live in the
UK. I have seen your father perform many times live on tour here
in UK. The last time I saw him was at the Victoria Theater in
London with his 'Old Bones' theme - he was truly entertaining
and the memory still lies with me! What a true gentleman and
star he was. Its testimony to him that his legacy lives on, and
new generations are discovering his unique and outstanding talent.
I am planning a visit to the USA next year (2005) and of course
will take in Steubenville! When would be the best time to visit?
And what should I see? Warm regards Andrew.
Hi
Andrew,
The
best time to visit Steubenville is in June. It's warm and you
can be there during the annual Dean Martin Festival. I hope
to see you there and here is a website for you to visit for
all the pertinent information. http://www.deanmartinsteubenville.com.
All the best.
